Look What You Did For Freeman

Picture
Freeman
At times it is unbelievable how forgiving and resilient dogs can be. If a dog ever had a reason to dislike people, it is our Freeman. He had severe neck wounds from being chained to a tree for what seems to have been his whole four years of life. He had scars on his skin from being exposed and helpless to whatever came his way. He had certainly never experienced love and affection. While chained by his ‘owner‘, the chain had become embedded in his neck.  Upon rescue, he was treated for his immediate needs to include infection as well as parasites, fleas, malnourishment, and skin issues. He was at the initial rescuing shelter for  a couple of days. It was a joint decision that ODCHS would assume responsibility for him to get him the treatment that he needed. After transferring to ODCHS, he was re-evaluated and received intensive, daily wound care and cleaning of his neck and treatment for all his other issues. For a very obvious reason, he was named Freeman. Every step of the way, he had his tail wagging! It was nothing short of amazing! He soaked up  love from the volunteers. He became comfortable with people and was even seen napping in his friend’s lap. He was understandably a little skittish, but gave us all a chance. He made many friends all along the way and even had an ‘old‘ friend come visit him! After his initial treatment, he had one minor setback. The diagnosis was that he most likely has some damage to his trachea from having been chained. He continued to heal and  made amazing progress. Surprisingly, in spite of where he came from, he kept his kennel clean! It was pure joy to watch Freeman run in the yard, as if he is saying thank you to life! Freeman was adopted soon after he was available. The last update we saw from Freeman, he was sitting with his Dad on the living room couch!  He had lived with just about the worst humans had to give, now, he deserves the best...
